10 ideas for giving
a second life for my jar

Glass is an infinitely reusable material. Here are some ideas for reusing our pots in your daily life and inspiring you for other uses... Clean and dry your pots well before using them. To remove the label, immerse the jar in hot water for several minutes and possibly use a little nail polish remover to remove any glue residue.

  • • Secure the tea light in the bottom of the jar with strong glue.
  • • Make several tight turns of string around the neck of the jar, taking care to leave approximately 50 cm of string free at the start to be able to finalize the suspension system.
  • • After making several turns, cut the string, leaving 50 cm of string free.
  • • Hang your tea light holder where you want and at the desired height and light the tea light.

TIP For a nice effect in the garden, make several tealight holders to place in different locations and different heights.

  • • In an empty jar, place:
    a layer of cooked quinoa, a layer of cooked broccoli, a layer of grated carrot or cooked diced carrot, a layer of cherry tomatoes cut in 2 with the inside sides of the tomatoes facing outwards. Finish with a layer of mesclun salad.
  • • Circle the neck of the jar with a pretty colored cord and serve with any seasoning you like.

    • During the summer period, make your homemade preserves and jams with seasonal products.
    • • Sterilize your jars before use.
    • • Fill them hot, close them and turn them upside down while they cool to empty the jars of air and ensure the good conservation of your preserves over time.
    • • Cut small squares from scraps of cotton fabric and cover your pots with them, securing them with an elastic band or colored cord.

  • What a pleasure to rediscover the good taste of summer fruits and vegetables in winter!

TIP Don’t forget to label your jars, mentioning the contents and the date of manufacture.

  • • Place a few small pebbles in the bottom of an empty jar.
  • • Add a fairly thick layer of soil.
  • • Plant 3 or 4 mini-plants of different sizes and shapes (such as succulents, ferns, etc.).
  • • Firm the soil a little around the plants.
  • • Add moss to the base of the plants and plant a pretty stone vertically.
  • • Water lightly.

TIP Do not water your terrarium too often. Wait until the condensation that forms every day on the walls of the jar disappears.

  • • Collect your jars of Jean Martin 110 g spreads, remove the labels by immersing them in hot water and clean them well.
  • • When you have enough, fill them with all kinds of spices or herbs (cut your cinnamon sticks in 2).
  • • From the sheets of colored paper, cut out circles a little smaller than the cap of the jar and stick them on, choosing a color per type of product (e.g.: green label - aromatic herbs, yellow label - spices, orange label - peppers and chili peppers, etc.) and write the name of the product concerned in a felt-tip pen.
  • • Store all your small jars in a drawer in your kitchen near your stove or work surface.

TIP The same idea can be used for preserving dry products (pasta, rice, legumes, etc.) by using larger jars.

  • • Coat the bottom of the jar with strong glue and wrap it tightly with string. Proceed in the same way on the upper part of the jar.
  • • When the entire glued part of the jar is covered, make other passes with the string.
  • • Cut the string and secure the end with a dot of glue (rather at the bottom of the jar)
  • • Cut out a small square of fabric of approximately 5 x 8 cm and roll it to obtain a “roll” of approximately 5 x 2 cm
  • • Tie it in the middle with a piece of string, bending it into a “bow tie”.
  • • Glue this knot (at the level of the string) with a dot of glue on the jar.
  • • Glue a button in the center of the knot and other buttons of different sizes and at different heights all around the jar directly on the string.

TIP Press firmly on the elements when gluing them and maintain the pressure while the glue sets.

  • An original idea for gourmets: make cookies, brownies, granola... ready to use!
  • • In a jar, add the ingredients of your usual recipe one by one in layers which you pack well so that the demarcation between the layers is clear.
  • • Once the ingredients are stacked, close the jar and, using a string, cover the lid with a piece of burlap or fabric.
  • • Finally, hang a handmade label with the instructions: fresh ingredients to add (milk, egg, butter, compote, etc.) and any cooking time.

TIP Make these preparations a nice gift for gourmet friends, for the school teacher at the end of the year...or to get the children cooking with ease!

  • Personalize the presentation of your drinks and cocktails in jars Little hydrating and refreshing idea: for example, prepare fruit-infused water to quench your thirst all year round.
  • • Wash your fruit and cut it into large pieces for maximum flavor.
  • • Add one or more fresh herbs: mint, basil, thyme, but also spices according to your taste.
  • • Cover with cold water and leave to infuse in the refrigerator between 2 and 8 hours so that the fruits have time to flavor the water.
  • • Serve with a pretty straw and if necessary a few ice cubes!

TIP Keep the skin of the fruit which intensely perfumes the water.

  • • Cut a strip of burlap the same height as the flat surface of the jar and long enough to go around it.
  • • Coat the central part of the jar with glue and place the strip of burlap.
  • • Place the adhesive lace ribbon on the burlap, centering it on it and go completely around the jar. Cut the lace ribbon edge to edge.
  • • Water, a few wild flowers and that’s it!

TIP You can replace the lace with a strip of gingham fabric or floral cotton.

  • To make pretty individual cakes, bake your favorite recipes while respecting the following tips:
  • • Use wide-mouthed jars like the 360 g Jean Martin jar.
  • • If you want to preserve your cakes over time, your jars must be clean and sterilized before use.
  • • Do not completely fill the jar with batter (no more than 2/3 of the jar) because the cake swells during baking.
  • Do not use a recipe with fruit. Instead, choose cakes like gingerbread, marbled cake, yogurt cake, chocolate cake, etc.

TIP If you wish to preserve your cake, close the jar as soon as it comes out of the hot oven to ensure its good conservation and the “clack” when opening the jar
